The Irish Prodrift series is home to some of the best drifters not just in Ireland but in the whole world, so when Japspeed drivers Shane Lynch, Danny Eyles, Anthony Cahill and Steve Biagioni were invited along to compete it was an absolute honour!
Taking place at the Citywest Exhibition Centre, the course for Round 3 was one of the most technical ever built testing driver and car to the absolute limit. The first long-sweeping corner caught many drivers out including Japspeed’s Steve Biagioni who hit the barrier at a ferrocious force putting him out for the weekend. You’ll be glad to hear the pretty boy’s safe and recovering with a sore neck and a damaged pride!
For driver Danny Eyles it was a much different affair, who was without doubt the best driver on the day attacking every run which put qualfied him first with a 97-point score which put him ahead of crowd favorites Dean Kearney and even James Deane! Even in the superlap battle to determine the top 16 running order Danny held his own qualifying 3rd just three points behind James Deane in the Nexen RX7.
Unfortunately for Danny, mid-way through his first Top 16 eliminator the S15 lost third gear ruining his run. Despite taking a ‘no fear’ attitude and continuing against Mike Deane it wasn’t enough to put Danny through to the Top 8. Rotten luck for what’s been an otherwise reliable season for the RB25-powered S15.
Despite the bad luck, all of Team Japspeed’s drivers had an immense time drifting with Ireland’s finest on one of the best drift circuits we’ve ever seen. Congratulations to James Deane who went on to take the win against brother Mike Deane, we look forward to Round 4 with a new gearbox to show you what the Brits can really do
