This weekend will see Team Japspeed and driver Paul Smith compete in the Civic Cup for the first time! The whole team are relishing the chance to extend our motorsport wings from the drifting that we have become internationally known for, to also include racing in our busy event calendar.
The event which we will debut in takes place at Snetterton this weekend, with two races being held over the 22nd and 23rd of September. The Civic Cup is a championship that is built up on the ethos that all cars are regulated, this puts the focus purely onto driver skill. It promises a level of playing field and ensures that there is no shortage of bumper to bumper action from the packed grid. We just found it irresistable! We had to get involved with the championship!
To enter into the Championship we have undertaken a huge build on a Honda Civic EP3 Type-R. Transforming the car from road to race; all of which will soon be published in Fast Car Magazine and of course on various Japspeed media sources.
Besides purpose building a car, we also had to send driver Paul Smith to take his ARDS test to gain his race license. Paul is well regarded for his car control and has a background of motorsport, so it is of no suprise that he passed with flying colours! The smile on his face tells it all, he is raring to go!
With the donor car safely back at Japspeed HQ we used a combination of our own parts and some supplied from our loyal and supportive sponsors.
We must take this chance to personally thank Exedy, KW Suspension UK, SamcoSport, Corbeau, Hose Technik, Cosworth, Super Pro, Factory Moto, Rock Oil, Plastics for Performance, Custom Cages, Monster Energy and of course Maxxis. Without you and your support, none of this would be possible.
With such a range of high quality components now on the car, we feel that not only is it ready to race and compete, it won’t be long before we are lifting the silverware and having Team Japspeed stood on the Civic Cup podium!
We couldn’t help but show you a sneak preview of the car as it stands. We will obviously keep you updated on the latest developments and race reports. We are also looking forward to the official grand unveiling in Fast Car Magazine!
We hope you will wish us well in our first race weekend, don’t forget to keep an eye on www.teamjapspeed.co.uk for the latest news, or to just catch up with how Paul Smith did when he went for his ARDS test.
