Oulton Park 18th August – “Euro Saloons” Championship
For rounds 9 & 10 of the BRSCC Euro Saloon Championship, the team made the short trip into Cheshire and to the picturesque circuit of Oulton Park.
Vaughan Fletcher and his “Scoobyclinic” prepared Subaru Impreza entered into the event, 7th place in class and ready to close up the gap on those ahead.
With a large turnout of class rivals as well as ex-BTCC, WTCC and Australian touring cars thrown into the mix, two tough races lay ahead.
Qualifying netted a disappointing 10th place overall and 5th in class behind this season’s front running race winners.
Starting from halfway down the grid provided a stiff challenge to the driver from Chesterfield, and with the lights out battle commenced! With the front two rows showing their superior pace, Fletcher began to battle through the grid. By the time the chequered flag was shown, the Impreza had fought its way up to 5th place, and only a lack of time denied a 4th place finish.
With some minor adjustments to the car, it was ready for race 2, and the last race of the day. Sat in 5th place, Vaughan had a hard fought race ahead of him and with a couple of super quick cars running close behind it would be another test of car and driver.
Again it was Ellwood that would be the team’s closest competition as the duo resumed the un-finished business started in race 1.
Unfortunately the race was red flagged after a Renault Clio barrel rolled along the circuit, denying Vaughan the chance to claw his way past the Marcos of Doug Ellwood and claiming another position.
Following the events of the weekend, the team now sits 3rd in class with two rounds to go, one at Anglesey and the other at their home circuit of Donington Park.
The team will next be out at Cadwell Park on the 8th /9th September for an appearance in the BARC “Classic Thunder” Championship.
